KAšU DISTRICT, ISLAND OF HAWAII

Kašu, at South Point, was the first place of landing for the Ancient Polynesians. This district is considered to be the spiritual heart of Hawaii and the home of the Volcano Goddess Pele. It is the largest land area in the archipelago, being the size of the entire island of Oahu, and being the most unpopulated in the state. Kašu is comprised primarily of spacious desert and dense rain forest, on the slopes of Mauna Loa, the largest mountain in the world. Nechung Dorje Drayang Lingšs temple and meditation center is in a hidden valley on 30 acres of forested land in Wood Valley- Kašu, close to the town of Pahala, 28 miles south of Kilauea Volcano. Punalušu Black Sand Beach, the nesting ground of sea turtles is 10 minutes by car. Whittington Park and Green Sand Beach at South Point are also close by.
